“Life is not hurrying on to a receding future, nor hankering after an imagined past.
It is the turning aside like Moses to the miracle of the lit bush,
to a brightness that seemed as transitory as your youth once,
but is the eternity that awaits you.”
- R. S. Thomas

Happy Mother’s Day

by Caroline on May 13, 2012

Happy Mother’s day,
to my mom
for all the blood, sweat and tears of birthing me,
all the years of caring, worrying, nurturing, cleaning, paying, hugging,
hoping, helping, cooking and cleaning.
Thank you for all your time, your advice, support and love.
Thank you for being my mother and my friend.
Happy Mother’s Day
to my family and friends whose love nurtures me and my daughters.
Happy Mother’s Day

to all of you who are part of the circle of mothers. Give yourself a pat on the back.
Happy Mother’s day
to me!

I hope your day is filled with freshly cut flowers, a tasty meal cooked by someone else, hugs and kisses and some quiet time to honour yourself and reflect on the important role you play.

Enjoy your day, beautiful women xxx

Four Pebbles – a Meditation

by Caroline on May 12, 2012

Four Pebbles Meditation

Place the four pebbles in front of you. Breathe in and out deeply, while doing this meditation.

Pick up the first pebble and mentally say to yourself, with the breath:

“I am fresh as a flower,

In, fresh,

Out flower” (bell)

Put down the first pebble, pick up the second pebble.

“I am solid as a mountain

In solid, out mountain.” (bell)

Put down second pebble, pick up the third pebble.

“I am water reflecting

In water, out reflecting.” (bell)

Put down the third pebble, pick up the fourth pebble.

“I am free as the moon in space

In free, out space.” (bell)

Put down the fourth pebble. Breathe.

The Flying Crab

April 23, 2012

My night was filled with dreams of butterflies breaking free of their cocoons,  large, colourful wings and creatures hatching from eggs. The morning too, gave birth to a new son, while I moved,  invisible,  on the beach. Running, full force, into the wind past the boy kicking up sand. I paused just long enough  to [...]

Creamy Butter Lettuce and Dill Salad

April 20, 2012

I have decided to try and catch up on a few foodie posts. As the weather is turning cooler, I decided to make a pot of my Mexican Bean Soup. I made it with garlic breads (that I ignored in the oven and got a wee bit burnt) and served it with a dollop of [...]

Sadhana

April 13, 2012

“You must tell yourself, No matter how hard it is, or how hard it gets, I’m going to make it.” - Les Brown All the time I am encouraging people to have a regular, personal spiritual practice. There is the ideal that involves a sacred personal space and a daily time where one sits and meditates [...]

The Easter Weekend

April 6, 2012

Today is Good Friday and I plan to warm up some Hot Cross Buns for breakfast. Lately in South Africa there has been a bit of controversy over a major retailer claiming their buns are Halaal, which in my mind begs the question why a Muslim would want/or be allowed to eat something with the [...]

Are you avoiding life?

March 28, 2012

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. [...]
