Requiem

I see myself standing on an empty beach
I have sand in my hands and am watching
how it slips through my fingers -
lots of tiny grains taken by the wind,
returning to the shore.

I feel the passing of time.
I taste it on my lips
like tears.
I hear their laughter echoing in my mind,
their giggles
and I wuv yous.

I recall each smile, touch
every moment,
every memory of this fleeting life.
Even in its’ imperfection,
I know I am blessed.

I run down the stairs to hold them -
Older now, their own people.
But I hold on tight.
This moment is everything.
