Surrender your search,
your trying effort
and give yourself permission
to just be.
Pack away those bags your have carried,
the ideas you have tolled over
and store them for another day.
There is no place for worrisome fears here,
You reach out with your hand to grab something
yet ignore what the other hand holds.
Let the urgency of your quest dissolve.
There is no space for a hurried life,
nor one wished away,
searching for diamonds in the dirt
while missing the emerald sea.
I have stopped searching, stopped forcing what will not bend and focusing on just being.I am constantly working on being mindful and present in the moment as obtaining a state of mindfulness is something that requires conscious attention and daily practice. There is no ultimate end result or outcome to achieve, as each day one has the ability to be mindful and each day one has the possibility of losing it. This morning while out walking, I focused on my breath first, followed by my daily mantra and then I went through my daily gratitude practice, allowing myself to be grateful for all the people in my life as well as all the different aspects of my life. Even when life is not going well or according to plan, there is always something to be grateful for and acknowledging these blessings is humbling. I am always grateful for the day and the possibility for being alive. This morning the air was warmer then it has been the past few days and the sea was a sheet of still, crystal glass. There was much to feel grateful for and I soaked up the peace in the moment.
Much later as I looked out at the water, I saw a pod of dolphins. There were about forty of them with lots of calves too, all playing in the water. It was magical. It was a wonderful reminder of the bounty that is all around us and how important it is to make the best of where you are, no matter where you are. Stop searching and just learn to be present in the moment. Find the good in where you are at and appreciate it. There are things in my life that frustrate me, that aren’t going quite as fast or well as they should, but I am grateful for being here, grateful for this opportunity to be healthier, grateful for time spent with those I love in this magical place.
One of the things I have learnt is that mindfulness and patience go hand in hand.
I do believe no matter what situation you face in your life, there is always something to be grateful for. No matter how bad or frustrating, take a good look at your life and find the good in where you are. You may be in a boring, dead end job; unfulfilling relationship; suffer a health issue or delay in achieving goals or dreams, but no matter what the situation, there will be some good. You may have to remove some emotional rocks, to see it hidden underneath, but I promise it is there. This is not about being Pollyanna, but rather about seeing the totality of what life is offering you and choosing to focus on and acknowledge what is good, while you work on changing what isn’t. We are not victims but active participants in constructing and shaping our lives. Take stock of what you have. Acknowledge what is and what isn’t, but today, see the good in where you are and give thanks for it.
“Can you see the holiness in those things you take for granted
– a paved road or a washing machine?
If you concentrate on finding what is good in every situation,
you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude,
a feeling that nurtures the soul.”
